"Sexy" Textbooks

Awhile back, I read an editorial from The Longview Daily News in Longview, Texas, The title of it was Do Parents Care About Textbooks?

The editorial made some interesting points. It said: "News reports from Austin say the State Textbook Committee has recommended for use of   fifth grade students a "sexy" history textbook  "because it turned students on" in contrast to other books labeled "too factual." It continued: "Do parents think their fifth grade sons and daughters need to be "turned on" by "sexy" textbooks in elementary schools?  The committee vote approving the "sexy" text was 12 to 3. Do the 12 members who voted for "sexy" history in the fifth grade really think boys and girls of ages 10 and 11 need to be "turned on"?

That was a good question. Another question might be--how many of those 12 who voted for this were "change agents" regarding public schools? If you  don't know what a "change agent" is, it is someone who worms their way into the public school apparatus with the intent of shaping the childrens' minds in such a way as to lead them away from the morality their parents taught them--or away from the real history they should be learning and leading them down some leftist bunny trail to moral oblivion.

Public schools have abounded with change agents for as long as I can remember.

In case you read this editorial and it makes you think we now have  problems with the public school system that we never had before, then I must disabuse you of that delusion here and now.

This editorial in the Longview, Texas newspaper was written on October 16, 1972! That was almost two years before the textbook protest in Kanawha County, West Virginia started! For those of you keeping track, that was 47 years ago this coming October. Texas was having problems with public school textbooks back then. So the problem with what goes on in public schools is hardly a new one and if you go back and do the homework you will find that the problems with public education go back lots further than 47 years.

If you want a starting point to do some research into all of this, I would recommend a book called Crimes of the Educators written by Samuel Blumenfeld and Alex Newman and published by WND Books (World Net Daily) in 2014. Amazon should still have some of these. It's not that old but it is packed with info on what the public education establishment has been doing for generations, and it's not hard to read.

I realize that for some parents its hard to get past the next reality show or what teams are playing baseball or football next Saturday and these are the resounding issues of their entire week. However, for parents that are concerned with what is going on in the schools their kids attend, for parents that see problems in those schools but don't know how to deal with them, then you need to start doing the homework and finding out what  has gone on in your public  schools not only while your kids are there, but back when you were there and before. Because what went on "before" has a definite effect on what is going on now. It's like history. What happened in the past does affect what happens now and "he who controls the past controls the future."

There are a couple excellent appendixes at the end of the Blumenfeld/Newman book mentioned above. One of them is entitled John Dewey's Plan To Dumb Down America.

One thing you need to take away from my brief comments here is that problems with public schools in America have been going on longer than you have been alive. It's not that there are problems in public schools, it's that the public schools are the problem! Let that thought sink in.

  2. Karl,
As one who has had my blog spots shadow banned I know exactly what you are talking about. If your book ever went viral think of the embarrassment that would cause the public education establishment.
